House in Orakei
This is a large house on a prominent site on Paritai Drive, Orakei, that enjoys extensive views and outlook to the north with views ranging from Rangitoto Island right around to the city of Auckland. The site enjoys all day sun with good northern exposure.
The house is designed around a central two level high atrium space that acts as an internal courtyard for the living and bedroom spaces to gather around. The living spaces primarily occupy the ground floor with the primary living, dining and kitchen areas arranged in a linear fashion to the north with a study and library space located at the western end. Ancillary services and guest WC facilities are to the south together with the fifth spare bedroom and ensuite. This service wing encloses an outdoor courtyard to the south of the main part of the house with good exposure to the western afternoon sun. The first floor comprises of four bedrooms each with ensuite and dressing rooms. These spaces are gathered around the upper level of the atrium with a stair, bridge and walkways connecting the bedrooms. Each bedroom enjoys its own private balcony.
The lower level has an internal garaging for four cars plus plant and service space for the house. An in ground pool is located on the northern edge of the site. The house is extensively landscaped with a mix of basalt paving and extensive planting.
The house is concrete block construction with stone cladding, the lower portion in textured basalt stone and the upper levels in a Jura Beige smooth limestone. All external windows and doors are aluminium.
