Chelsea School

A new 6 classroom teaching block is to replace an existing teaching block on the eastern edge of the Chelsea School site. The new build comprises of three teaching spaces on each level with associated staff and student facilities. The classroom spaces are configured to allow for a variety of learning situations with a mix of larger open spaces and smaller breakout spaces for smaller group activities. The spaces are accessed off a two-level veranda that fronts onto an existing courtyard and engages the outdoor spaces with a timber deck and seating areas. Two stairs activate this frontage for access to the upper levels. The eastern façade enjoys wide ranging views to the east and southeast over the Northshore and Harbour areas. Windows are located to suit both adults and students with windows placed at a variety of levels.

The building maximizes cross ventilation to reduce the need for heating and ventilation systems as well as orientation and window placement to further reduce heating and ventilation loads. The building is clad in profiled metal roofing for maximize durability and maintenance on an exposed site.
